DIG THE GIG UC HEAT 1 2024

BIG ANGRY ERUPTED

...and the bar has been risen!

It's not everyday you get to walk into a bar and witness five up and coming hard working bands that in the cold light of day are studying at the local university - Welcome to season four of DIG THE GIG UC.

Our Credo here at DIG THE GIG is simple...

Giving the characters and personalities behind our incredible NZ university bands a chance to strut their swagger live on stage is what DIG THE GIG lives for - Showcasing & promoting the bands live performance and songs to our domestic & international audiences that should know about them but probably don't is our PROMISE.

GIBSON XCVlll hit the stage on Wednesday night with purpose. The reason this band perform is to be heard and trusted regardless of change. These guys are familiar with change but seem to use it as a steeping stone to be braver and the results are obvious - A tight performance that showcased why GIBSON XCVlll never lets an opportunity to play a live show slip away. Legends!

Monotones are new to the DIG THE GIG circus - their performance went a little off piste in places but the thrill off playing live was noticeable and certainly kept them rocking in the free world! Keep up the practice.

Big Angry are no strangers to whipping a crowd into a frenzy at a live show and once again they didn’t disappoint. These guys are set for big things and if they play their rock n roll cards right it might just be their year. Well played and congrats on bringing the crowd and moving into the semi finals territory.

Third Junction were Immaculate, precise, professional and super slick on every account - snd to be honest they blindsided us. Sadly they didn’t bring their crowd with them - if they get a wild card calling who knows what will happen come semi finals day.

Swamp Meet closed the night off with pure rock n roll bliss. It was so good to see, hear and feel a three piece rock n roll band from the West Coast delivering swashbuckling solos, Viking like drum fills and 'steady as she go’s' bass lines. Insane performance and thank you for the music Swamp Meet. Don’t go changing gentleman.

As always thanks to Mike & Gretchen and their team of hospitality hero's at A Rolling Stone for hosting. Flo Herzog for the wonderful sound and thanks a million to all the cool fans that came out and let some steam off!

Thanks to our awesome sponsors - we couldn’t do this with out your support.

See you on Wednesday May 29th for DTG UC Heat Two.

It will be a blinder!
