You Can't Start a Fire Without a Spark!

DIG THE GIG UOA Heat 3 was as big as the thunder strike that hit the city of sails half an hour before the first band took to the stage. A huge thanks to Finn for the sound and lights and to Big Fan for hosting the fans and bands - it was a gloriously thrilling evening of live university band music.

DTG House Band De Grazzer played a very sifty rock n’ roll/blues set which got the anxious crowd thinking.

Host with the Most Leigh Hart seemed to look at ease and played the room like a well tuned fiddle - it was turning into a Snackachangi Chip Festival as he pelted the fans with packets of the hugely popular assorted Snackachangi chip range - it was rumoured that the organiser took him backstage for an intervention of sorts to cease the pelting of chip packets into the crowd.

Sad Pantz took the stage and let it rip! Jen Fetesio and Michael Sorensen lead the band superbly - the perfect start to a perfect night of DIG THE GIG rock n’ roll.

NEON are a band that formed merely months ago - you certainly wouldn’t have picked it - well played and don’t go changing!

Basely arrived and aroused accordingly - a very clever bunch a musician's that have it all - Eleno Yeo on bass was outstanding, Yasbel ‘Mae’ on lead vocals delivered the songs beautifully - their cover of Phoebe Bridges had the room hooked from the get go - their melancholy Folk Rock originals were divine - it really was a wonderful journey to be part of.

Prisoner Prisoner hit hard - an Indi rock band sensation that won the crowd over instantly. Big vocals from Zach Baldwin and some big drop-down arrangements that blew us all away - a superb set.

Bliss are next level cool cats - Michael Hill once told me 'always be wary of the underdog' - these guys are dangerously good and are about to explode onto the scene. Congrats on making it through to the DTG UOA 2024 Final.

Alex Beattie and his all star band played a tight set - these guys are a great band that have multiple options for success at their fingertips if they keep it rolling.

CCTV are a unique, smart and unpredictable post punk band - we all witnessed something rather special on Thursday night. Congrats on winning the heat - the final will be epic!

Locals Only finished the evening off in style with an epic three song rock/pop set driven by Dom Hopewell on the bass guitar - Madison Daniel’s vocals soared through the fans at Big Fan leaving a huge wake - as the mighty VOX amps were left to simmer it was anyone’s heat to win.

Massive thanks to Major Major and our awesome supporting sponsors - we love you all.

Check out the heat images on the gallery and we'll see all you good souls at the final on Thursday 12th of September at Big Fan
