DIG THE GIG NZ LOGO

The Beatniks Reign Supreme!

The DIG THE GIG OU Final was played on Saturday afternoon at Erricks Venue in Sunny Dunedin.

It was an early start but it didn’t stop the fans and bands from putting on a wonderful display of heroics both on and off the stage.

A huge thanks to Sals Pizza for delivering the best pizzas in NZ - Sals were our very first sponsor when we launched DIG THE GIG backs in 2021 - without their support I wouldn’t be writing this note! We love you guys just as much as your pizzas.

DTG House Band Con Carne made the trip from the Garden City to warm up Errick's kick ass PA - Con Carne have been one of the driving forces behind DIG THE GIG since its inception and there was no way they were going to miss this big occasion - they played a tight set and by the looks of it they might have made some news friends.

A huge thanks to Ed, Destynee and Mille for their time and positive energy throughout the DIG THE GIG OU Comp. It is humans and venues like these that amplify and and keep the rock n’ roll candles burning for live music here in NZ. It is a full on role these wonderful people are playing and without their support we would be in the dark.

Toki our Host with the Most has been outstanding - we thank you for your time and beautiful presence. It's been a pleasure getting to know you.

As many are starting to understand - DIG THE GIG is all about the FANS - without them the bands would be drowning. The bands need the FANS and we thank everyone one of you for coming out on those cold Wednesday nights since May 22nd and giving your love and huge cheers and screams of joy! It was a pleasure to meet many that had experienced every show!

Becca Caffyn played superbly through the heats, made the semi final and the grand final. The date for the final had to be moved, sadly Becca had plans that could not be moved. DIG THE GIG HQ would like to thank Becca for her amazing music, incredible nature and support for DIG THE GIG.

Becca Caffyn and all the bands that made the DIG THE GIG OU Final will head into Thomas Bell’s studio in Post Chalmers to record their singles. We cant wait to hear what will be produced and captured. Standby for some magic.

A huge thanks to the Scenic Hotel Group for their ongoing support for live university music here in NZ and having the DTG crew to stay at the Scenic Hotel - super hospitality and we are grateful.

  • Major Major for their love and for amplifying DIG THE GIG for another year. You guys are legends.

  • Platypus Shoes for giving every band member a pair of cool new kick!

  • The Rockshop for a $500.00 voucher for the winning band.

  • Reburger for the $100 vouchers for every band.

  • Snackachangi Chips for supplying a years supply of the best chips in the world for the winning band.

Thanks to all our supporting sponsors that have delivered incredible prize packs and positive energy. We cant thank you enough.

Also thanks to Max Came who helped me bring our cool movement to life in Dunedin.

Wild Card band Saurian jumped into the deep end and delivered a cracker of a three song set. We have enjoyed watching these getting better and louder over the comp - stay true to your craft and big things will happen Saurian.

Ani Saafa hit the stage like hungry panthers! Stanley Brabazon’s vocals and stage presence is overwhelming at the best of times and when then you throw in Logan Edwards on vocals and lead guitar the rooms explodes! A band that will take you on a journey that everyone is hoping is a one way ticket!

Cruze Control have this unique groove and feel that simply gives them the control - they can slow it down, turn things around and then kiss you where it hurts! Wicked dudes on and off stage - we have loved getting to know them, it's been a pleasure having them onboard.

The Beatniks arrived, delivered and no one wanted it to end - a performance that will stay etched in the minds of everyone present for some time - Finals are big occasion and big occasion bring out big moments. Congrats for being crowned DIG THE OU 2024 Champions - well played and well deserved - looking forward to seeing you guys in the DIG THE GIG Nationwide Grand Final in late October 18th.

Radio Hauraki PIC Award - Great to see Lizzie our Radio Hauraki Scout at the final and having a blast - Lizzie picked the Beatniks for the Hauraki Pic Award - simply insane! This is a really cool award and we thank our good friends at Radio Hauraki for their positive energy. Lizzie your a rock star!

See all you good souls for DIG THE GIG OU Season Two early May 2025.

All gave some but some gave all.
